2006 World Yo-Yo One Hand String Trick division (A,1A) Sleeping tricks with one yo-yo.
Read trick descriptions carefully. All tricks are to be performed as described in the text and accompanying video (if available). Significant loss of control of the yo-yo will not be allowed. This round allows one attempt of each trick for five points, a second attempt (if necessary) for three points. Your compulsory score is the total of the points scored on the ten tricks. Top scoring players advance to the final freestyle.

Please note: Bind returns are allowed for all tricks but not required. A failed bind return will be considered a miss.

At each trick station all tricks must be performed using the same yo-yo. You may change the yo-yo between each trick station. Stations will be announced on the day of the event.

Top contestants from compulsories go to the freestyle finals. Please see freestyle rules for the number of contestants that progress to freestyles and for freestyle rules.

1. Flying Trapeze Green Triangles (4 reps on one spin): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Trapeze mount. Dismount from trapeze while holding string with Freehand. Pinch string with Freehand and pull up on the yo-yo with and slack string up and over the string segment held between the Throwhand and Freehand (note that the slack segment should go over string from in front of string to between the string and your body.) Catch the yo-yo on the slack string in a Green Triangle (GT). Dismount from GT, tossing yo-yo away from the body, while holding string with Freehand. Perform 3 or more reps. Return the yo-yo to your hand by the method of your choice.
Judging Guidelines
Yo-yo must enter Green Triangle from in front of string segment held between the Throwhand and Freehand. All dismounts from the GT between reps must be thrown out and away from body. You must not release the string hold with Freehand between reps.
2. Kamikaze: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a "Houdini Drop" double or nothing hold using the thumb and index finger of your Freehand. Pop yo-yo upwards towards the top string segment and let the string segment drop off of your thumb simultaneously. The string should hit the underside of the top string and drop into a Side-style Mach 5 hold.

Roll the yo-yo over your Throwhand index finger. Now with your Freehand index finger hook and pull the front string segment towards your body while letting the inside segment fall of your Freehand index finger. Now pop the yo-yo in front of the strings and land it on top of all the strings. At this point, or during the previous hop, you can untwist the string segment held on your Freehand index finger.

Roll the yo-yo over your Freehand index finger and you will be in a Trapeze hold. Next perform a Magic Drop as in Shock Wave. Now pop the yo-yo upward and hit the bottom of top string and let the yo-yo roll over your Throwhand index finger.

Next reverse the direction of the roll and miss all strings. Let the yo-yo continue a second roll and land of the top string (furthest from your body). Reverse the direction of the roll and hit the bottom of the top string letting the yo-yo roll over your Throwhand index finger. Now reverse the direction of the roll one last time and release the string segment from your Freehand index finger and land the yo-yo on the bottom string in a Trapeze hold. Return the yo-yo to your hand by the method of your choice.

Judging Guidelines
As noted in the Shock Wave rules and judging guidelines, while performing the Magic Drop you may not spread the string segment of the Trapeze hold with your thumb or fingers of your Freehand to aid in dropping the yo-yo onto the bottom string segment.
3. Shock Wave (4 reps): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
(Change for 2006, changed from 5 reps to 4 reps)
Trapeze mount. Next press your Throwhand thumb and index finger together and wrap the string under your thumb and over the outside of your index finger by rolling your wrist towards your body. Now perform a "Magic Drop" by opening your Throwhand thumb and index finger into a "V' as you let the yo-yo roll down the string under and over your Throwhand index finger onto the string segment nearest your body. You will now be holding the yo-yo in a modified trapeze mount with the string going over your Throwhand thumb and your Throwhand index finger spreading the string segment of the trapeze. Now, while making sure not to drop the string off your Throwhand thumb and index finger, let the yo-yo roll back down the string under and over your Freehand index finger landing on the string nearest your body. Now let the extra string segments simultaneously drop off your Throwhand thumb and index fingers. You should now be back in a trapeze hold, perform 3 more reps. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice. Note that you may only use your index finger of your freehand and can not spread the Trapeze hold with another finger or your thumb during the Magic Drop.
Judging Guidelines
As noted above, while performing the Magic Drop you may not spread the string segment of the Trapeze hold with your thumb or fingers of your Freehand to aid in dropping the yo-yo onto the bottom string segment.
4. Suicide Catch (4 reps): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
(change for 2006, changed from 5 reps to 4 reps)
Trapeze mount. Next let the yo-yo roll down the string and under and over your Throwhand while releasing the Trapeze hold off your Freehand. Catch the loop formed by this maneuver back into a perfect Trapeze hold without any twists of the string segment. Perform three more Suicide catches back into perfect Trapeze holds. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice. Note that all Suicide catches must be made with the index finger only of your Freehand.
Judging Guidelines
The judges will be looking for perfect untwisted Trapeze holds after each of the four Suicide Catches. The Trapeze mount is over the index finger only and it is not allowed to use your hand or fingers to open the loop while the yo-yo is on the trapeze.
5. Throwhand Grind (3 Grinds): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
(Change for 2006: One additional Grind)
Trapeze mount, reverse pinwheel off trapeze into a grind on top or side of the Throwhand, slide the yo-yo back onto the string into a Trapeze hold. Perform 1 somersault, in the same direction as the pinwheel, letting the momentum of the somersault toss the yo-yo onto the top or side of the Throwhand into a second grind. Slide yo-yo off the top or side of the Throwhand onto the string back into a Trapeze hold. Repeat this step letting the momentum of the somersault toss the yo-yo onto the top or side of the Throwhand into a third grind. Slide yo-yo off the top or side of the Throwhand onto the string back into a Trapeze hold. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice.
Judging Guidelines
On all three of the grinds the yo-yo must stay in contact with the top or side of the Throwhand and 'grind' for a short but perceivable period of time and can't merely bounce off the hand back into the Trapeze hold.
6. Alternating Eli Hop (4 hops): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Start with Trapeze mount and perform a one standard Eli Hop catching the yo-yo in front of your wrist, then perform a second Eli Hop catching the yo-yo clearly behind your wrist, return the yo-yo to in front of your wrist and perform another hop in front of your wrist and another hop behind your wrist. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice. Hands must touch during each of the 4 hops.
Judging Guidelines
In judging whether the catch is, clearly behind your wrist, the judges will look from side to make sure that the entire yo-yo is behind the wrist and hand when the yo-yo lands on the string. Close is not good enough on the four hand touches. If the judges see a gap between the hands which clearly indicates that the hands did not touch on one or more of the hops the attempt will be considered a miss.
7. Slack Trapeze (4 reps): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
(change for 2006, changed from 3 reps to 4 reps)
Throw a Trapeze. Pop the yo-yo off the Trapeze, and pinch the string between the fingers of your Freehand. With the Throwhand, throw the string over the Freehand arm, forming a "U", and allow the part of the "U" furthest from you to mount itself onto the yo-yo. Swing the yo-yo clockwise over the Freehand and Throwhand, and you will be back in Trapeze. From the Trapeze hold complete 3 more reps. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice.
Judging Guidelines
The string may not be twisted after any of the four slack mounts so that the yo-yo ends up in a perfect Trapeze hold after each slack mount.
8. Spirit Bomb with "Cheese Whip" Mount: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a Trapeze, and then perform a "Cheese Whip" by throwing a slack loop under and over your Freehand, catching the loop over your Throwhand. Now swing the yo-yo over your Freehand index finger and on to the string segment that is centered under your catching hand, landing the yo-yo into a wrist-bucket mount. Pull your Freehand out of the hold so the yo-yo is hanging in the mount over your Throwhand. Now perform a double pass-under with Freehand index finger, Pop yo-yo up, bring Throwhand under and catch yo-yo on outermost string segment, Pop yo-yo up, uncross arms, and catch yo-yo over Freehand index finger back into Wrist-bucket Mount (Note that the yo-yo has to pass through the triangle formed over your Throwhand and land on bottom string segment), perform two pass-unders with Freehand index finger onto back string segment and pull into Trapeze hold. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice.
Judging Guidelines
The key element the judges will be watching very closely is that after the last pop the yo-yo must pass through the triangle formed over your Throwhand and land on bottom string segment into a Wrist-bucket Mount.
9. Black Hop: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Start with Triple or Nothing mount over both index fingers (note that you can not throw the Triple or Nothing over your thumbs or other fingers to spread the strings apart), hop down to Trapeze in 4 hops then back to a hold similar (but not quite) to a Triple or Nothing in 4 hops (more like undercuts). After all 8 hops pull your Throwhand index finger out of the hold and rotate the Yo-Yo 2 revolutions into a Trapeze hold. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice.
Judging Guidelines
One judge will view trick from the side to make sure that: the yo-yo lands only on the string segment furthest from your body on the Triple or Nothing catch and the yo-yo lands on only one string on each of the 8 hops (or undercuts) catches.
10. Iron Whips (4 reps): [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
(Change for 2006: Changed from 3 reps to 4 reps and not a combined tiebreaker)
Throw a Trapeze. Grab the upper string segment of the Trapeze hold with your Throwhand and pop the yo-yo upward off the string. With the loop formed by grabbing the string perform a whip catch of the yo-yo back into a one-hand Trapeze holx. Perform three more reps. Return yo-yo to your hand using the method of your choice.
Judging Guidelines
The string must not be twisted after the whip catch back into the one-hand Trapeze hold. It should open into a perfect Trapeze hold if you separate the one-hand hold with your Freehand index finger.
11. Tie-breaker if needed
Rules:
Iron Whips: Most Whip catches on one spin wins.
